These were office computers (small business computers used in offices) from Fujitsu. Fujitsu announced the FUJITSU K-600Si Series (4 model groups and 12 models) in October 1990 as the successor of the FACOM K-600 Series. With the advent of the era of strategic use of information systems, Fujitsu added the Si suffix to its model names, and adopted the slogan "SIS begins with K". In the following year the series was expanded to 13 models, with the addition of the top-end FUJITSU K-690Si Model 30 (4 CPUs). This series had the following features:
(1) Performance improved by using state-of-the-art technology
- Greatly improved CPU processing capacity due to the use of high-density VLSI (CMOS, 80,000 gates)
- Expansion of system size by providing multiple CPUs (up to a maximum of 4) (Top-end K-690Si Model 30)
(2) Reliability improved by using state-of-the-art technology
- Support for duplicate disk (mirror disk) capability
- Support for disk active maintenance capability to enable maintenance of disk devices during system operation
- Built-in uninterruptible power supply mechanism for protecting the system from momentary power outages due to events like lightning
(3) Higher capacity files and enhanced RDB
- Maximum disk capacity was expanded by using a new high-speed disk (K-690 20GB -> K-690Si 68GB)
- Improved search processing performance of RDB search tool
