Hitachi announced the VT800 UNIX server in October 1997 as the flagship of its 9000V series. The VT800 featured Hewlett-Packard’s PA-8000 64-bit RISC processor and could be scaled up to 16 processors in a symmetric multiprocessing configuration using a crossbar switch with a peak performance of 26.8 GB/s.
The VT800 used Hewlett-Packard’s HP-UX 10.20 and HP-UX 11.00 operating systems and its memory and file system supported 64-bit addressing. The server could run the rich line of HP-UX middleware and commercial products and was well adapted for large database and data warehouse applications in open-source system environments.
