Hitachi announced the HA8000 series of advanced PC servers in June 1998. The servers were equipped either with Intel’s latest Pentium II Xeon processor or with the Pentium II processor. The top-of-the-line HA8000/380 model was special in that Hitachi developed its own chipset for multiprocessing with eight Pentium II Xeon processors.
The HA8000 series featured hot-swappable disk arrays and were suitable for cluster systems.
And Hitachi’s System Manager server management tool improved the servers’ reliability and availability and gave detailed control over server operations.
