Hitachi announced the new FLORA-S series of PC servers starting with the SM1 in February 1996 and the SS1, SB1, and SA1 in April 1996.
- (1) The FLORA SM1 was equipped with Intel’s Pentium Pro (180 MHz) processor. Multiprocessing was possible with expansion up to four processors (only two processors were supported at the time of the initial announcement). The server could also house an uninterruptable power supply, a redundant power supply, and a disk array as large as 32 GB.
- (2) The FLORA SS1 was equipped with Intel’s Pentium Pro (200 MHz) processor. A second processor could be added for multiprocessing. It could also house a 16 GB disk array.
- (3) The FLORA SB1 was equipped with Intel’s Pentium Pro (200 MHz) processor. A second processor could be added for multiprocessing.
- (4) The FLORA SA1 was equipped with Intel’s Pentium Pro (166 MHz) processor.
- (5) Hitachi made significant improvements to its FLORA MANAGER PC server management function.
