The Rupo JW-V610, which Toshiba rolled out in 1996, was a personal word processor with Internet features for accessing Web pages and sending and receiving email. The user just had to choose from a menu provided by the Easy Internet function to connect to the Internet host People (now FFNet) and start accessing the Internet.
Besides Internet access, the JW-V610 was notable for its handling of image data. Images taken from video cameras, digital cameras, video scanners, and other imaging devices could be placed into documents thanks to the standard video input terminal. The Extract function could automatically cut out people or other shapes from imported images, and the Background Combination function could combine backgrounds and people or combine group photos.
On the hardware side, the JW-V610 came standard with a 256-color DSTN LCD screen and a high-speed printer capable of printing up to 16.7 million different colors. The LCD screen’s resolution was 640 x 480 pixels. The printer could print three lines simultaneously at speeds of 233 characters per second.
