Historical Computers in Japan

Here is exhibited the development history of computers in Japan over 40 some years since the dawn of the country's computer age in the 1950s. The different types of computers are exhibited under the separate categories of Early Computers, Mainframes, Super Computers, Office Computers, Mini Computers, Workstations & Lisp Machines, Personal Computers, Japanese Word Processors, and Peripheral Equipment. Machines that do not fit neatly into one of these categories have been included in Mainframes.

Such expressions as "Japan's first" or "world's first" are based on the statements of the various manufacturers and are not those of the Information Processing Society of Japan. The Special Committee of the History of Computer will continue to strive to provide rich exhibits, so we would be grateful to hear your ideas and desires.
