【Hitachi】 HITAC S-820

The successor of the S-810 supercomputer. It was announced in July 1987, and the first machine was shipped in December of that same year. In addition to instruction parallel pipeline control, for simultaneously processing multiple instructions, it was also provided with a new component parallel pipeline control capability for parallel processing of multiple vector components.
For vector registers, Hitachi developed single-chip ultra high-speed memory elements containing 7Kbit 2.5ns high-speed RAM and logic elements with 2,500 gates. The system achieved the highest speed in the world for a single processor, performing 3 billion operations per second.
The system was also the first supercomputer in the world to have a video output mechanism.
