The if800RX Series, announced in 1986 as higher-end models of the if800 Series, had enhanced communication capabilities. They employed a multimedia card (multiple combined modem) which integrated 3 types of modem onto a single board. These machines were distinguished by their personal computer communication capability, and their ability to connect to CAPTAIN systems and other networks.
Furthermore, the BIG integrated software package was standard. BIG integrated software was state-of-the-art and based on a new concept -- it attempted to achieve data integration and operation integration by placing word processing software, spreadsheet software and graphics software (which, at the time, were provided separately) at the center as a relational database.
In July 1988 the if800EX Series of personal computers was announced. These featured a 1 megabyte main memory unit, and greater speed and capacity due to adoption of the 80386. These machines were 32-bit personal computers equipped with a VM Monitor (Virtual Machine Monitor) to enable multitasking, where up to 3 application programs could be simultaneously executed under M(Byo)-DOS.
