The PRIMERGY 6000 series of office computers was Fujitsu’s successor to the GRANPOWER 6000 series. Fujitsu announced the series in May 2000. All models in the PRIMERGY 6000 series used either Intel Pentium III processors or Intel Pentium III Xeon processors, giving them as much as 140 percent more performance on a CPU basis than the GRANPOWER 6000 models. Fujitsu realigned its IA*1 servers under a single brand, with PC servers sold under PRIMERGY and office computers under PRIMERGY 6000. Uchida Yoko sold the PRIMERGY 6000 series as the NetGLOBE 9000III.
Features of the PRIMERGY 6000 series:
- (1) Better performance for Internet-enabled core business operations
- All models benefited from the notable performance boost gained from using Intel processors in an IA server configuration.
- Entry models: 700/750 MHz Pentium III
- Mid-range models: 800 MHz Pentium III
- High-end models: 800 MHz Pentium III Xeon
- (2) Full backward compatibility with existing resources and better Internet support
- Fujitsu supplied a microkernel on GRANPOWER 6000 office computers that ran K series applications at the binary level. Fujitsu continued this microkernel technology in the ASP V15 operating system and added more Internet software functions, in reaction to the increasing importance of software in computing.
- WWW server functions
- WWW browser emulator
- WWW server system monitor
