This was a general-purpose computer, based on the design concept of the HITAC 8000 Series, with a significantly improved cost-performance ratio. It was announced in 1971, to meet a wide range of needs for office processing, scientific/engineering computation and online systems.
It had four main features: (1) A system suited for database processing, (2) Improved capabilities as an online system, (3) A remote batch system, and (4) Improved reliability. These features made it possible to build an online system at a low price, and contributed to the realization of small-scale online systems, such as production management systems and sales inventory management systems.
