【Oki Electric】 DP-1000

This was a wire dot line printer which was able to print kanji (Chinese characters) at high speed using the multi-head system. It had the following features:

1) It printed sharp "Minchotai" kanji at high-speed.

2) It also enabled graphic printing.

3) By using the multi-head printing system, where multiple 24-pin heads are arranged in a horizontal array, it was possible to reduce acceleration of the printing head at spaces compared to the system where printing magnets are arranged horizontally in a row. This reduced noise and vibration even during high-speed printing.

4) High-printing quality was achieved by using a DC servomotor as the space motor for the printing head, and a lead screw as the space mechanism.

The DP-2000 kanji dot line printer, which was commercialized in 1989, had the following features.

1) It enabled printing at 240 line/min in high-speed kanji mode (font with simplified dot density).

2) It automatically determined the total number of dots in data to be printed in one line, and in the case of high duty printing, it printed one line by dividing it at least 2 times, thereby smoothing power consumption.

3) The printer was equipped with the JIS-C-6220 alphanumeric/kana font as a standard feature, and JIS Level 1 and JIS Level 2 kanji fonts could be added as an option using JIS-C-6234.
