These units were connected to all L Series and M Series systems via a dedicated interface, and were developed to reduce size and cost, and improve reliability.
Main features were:
- High-speed processing of 800 cards/minute by a desktop unit (systems with speeds of 285 cards/minute and 400 cards/minute were also available).
- Reading of punched card data and marked card data could be done with a single head.
- Various check functions were added to reduce data errors to zero.
- RAS features for classifying equipment error states in detail and reporting them to the host computer.
