NEC announced the TL620NS, a compact, integrated magnetic tape unit, in September 1998. The TL620NS allowed enterprises to inexpensively automate data backup operations for entry-class server systems. The unit used drives based on Travan NS technology, a server backup standard. And for higher overall reliability, the unit came with a read-while-write function, which permitted data to be read while being written and eliminated writing defects.
