he H-6951-1 Magnetic Tape Cartridge Library System was developed to meet the need for automation, driven by the increase in the number of backup magnetic tapes, and the increased work load for the operator. The system was shipped in September 1990 for use with HITAC M Series large systems.
The system completely automated tape handling, and could hold anywhere from 694 to a maximum of 6,560 magnetic tape cartridges, in 8 different system configurations. Higher performance and reliability were achieved by duplicating the accessor robot and other key parts, and providing optimal control to minimize interference between the two accessor robots.
