In October 1978 PANAFACOM LIMITED (present PFU LIMITED) released a personal computer C-15, equipped with originally developed 16 bit microcomputer chip. Following year, the enhanced new model C-15E was released. These C-15 series were initially targeted for use in calculation or measurements in scientific research or engineering field, from their high performance but ease of use and low cost. However, market demand for futures such as a personal computer that can operate a variety of applications in the OA field had been growing at that time, C-15E also primarily was used as a terminal of over-the-counter and branch office in the pharmaceutical manufactures and life insurance companies. After C-15E, PANAFACOM LIMITED developed higher performance personal computers one after another.

The main characteristics of PANAFACOM C-15E are:
・High speed processing by a high-performance 16-bit microprocessor
(MN1610A, instruction execution time : 2μs or more)
・User's programming makes implementation conversational language BASIC
・16KB RAM can be added to basic memory (RAM16KB, ROM2KB)
・Can be connected to various I/O devices and measuring instruments through serial interface (RS232C) and IEC bus (GPIB).
